Mini-Reunion/Announcements

56th Reunion Dinner May 30, 2014

Posted May 31, 2014

Berit Smith joined 21 classmates and spouses at our 56th reunion at a renovated Cap&Gown on a beautiful evening on May 30th. The list of attendees included Dunn and Fairman celebrating their 56th consecutive reunion, a truly incredible streak:

Farren, Farrin, Sussman, Mclaughlin, Bromley, Easton, Deichmann, Baton, Mayers, trimble, Porter, Bates, Kuhlthau, Weeder, Fortenbaugh, Metcalf, Levy, Duffield, and Greenberg.

As always, Bill Fortenbaugh was a fantastic host for the event and David Greenberg said, and we all agreed, that the Princeton Band was the best ever.

Class President Jim Farrin said that Paul Levy has replaced Bruce Krause as webmaster and spoke about our class being recognized as a "Class with a big heart”. In that spirit, The Princeton 1958 Fund, led by Joe Roxe, was recognized for its speedy and good work and we had a silent prayer for Bob Bennett who recently passed away. All in all a great evening!

Washington D.C. Mini-Reunion March 20-24, 2014

Posted May 28, 2014

By any measurement, the "off-beat” (as Jock Brooks called it) mini-reunion in Washington DC, March 20 – 23, was an outstanding success!  Thirty-one classmates and fifty-nine in total attended, which was one of our best USA mini turnouts ever!

Classmates who attended were:  Brooks, Bromley, Bob Brown, Cannell, Deichmann, Duffield, Duncan, Eckel, Elman, Farren, Farrin, Fogelberg, Foss, Gilbert, Hicks, Hornby, Katzen, Krause, Kuhlthau, Lefever, Richard Miller, Terry Miller, Pusey, Puttkammer, Rodgers, Shahan, Sudduth, Bob Thomas, Trimble, Wijkman, and Wilgis.

Highlights of the three days were:  a visit to the National Gallery, a visit to George Washington's magnificent Mount Vernon residence, a trip to the famous Bull Run(s) Civil War Battlefields (on a freezing day).  In addition to the sights, we also greatly enjoyed the class dinner at the top of the Kennedy Center, and finally cocktails and dinner at the fabulous Georgetown home of Terry and Nicole Miller.

Hong Kong Mini Reunion February 24 - March 3 2010

Report by Had Talbot

On February 24th, 2010, some 85 members of the great Class of 1958, plus about 80 spouses (including three widows) gathered in Hong Kong for what must be one of the largest "mini-reunions” in the history of our great University. The reunion was substantially underwritten by our esteemed and enormously generous classmate and Trustee, Sir Gordon Wu.

Through Gordon’s eyes we all caught a glimpse of the China – from Hong Kong to Guangzhou to Macau - of today that would be impossible in any other way.   We started and closed our week with sumptuous evenings at the Panda Hotel in Hong Kong. We visited the sights of Hong Kong (now a Special Administrative Region of China) including the headquarters of Hopewell Holdings, the construction and development company Gordon has led for many years. There we benefited from an insider’s view of infrastructure projects, past and current, that are changing the face of Guandong Province, the wealthiest in China.

We then toured the province up to its capital Guangzhou (previously known as Canton) to view, up close and personal, a few of the projects themselves. We were accompanied by Gordon Wu every step of the way. Throughout the tour he gave us the benefit of candid and pithy comments about the generally positive and pragmatic way in which the various Chinese authorities have worked with contractors and the people of the region to achieve the astounding development that has taken place over the last 30 years, since Deng Xiaoping declared that "to be rich is glorious”.

The entire reunion was an unforgettable opportunity to join with classmates and spouses to experience, "hands on”, the rapid evolution of a historic and dynamic culture after years of stagnation and pain. Thank you, Sir Gordon Wu!
