Class of 1958 Mini Reunion - Mackinac Island, MI

September 7-10, 2009

Mackinac Island is eight miles northeast of the MackinacBridge which connects the upper and lower parts of Michigan.  On the Island motor vehicles are prohibited; one moves by foot or bicycle or behind horses in a carriage.

Early September is a beautiful month.  Days are pleasant and mostly rain free.  Three full days together will give time for relaxing when not participating in group activities including a carriage tour, a Lake Huron dinner boat cruise, a visit to the 18th/19th century U.S. Army Fort, cocktails at the Puttkammer’s summer cottage and, of course, dinner at the world famous Grand Hotel.  Golfers can play a round on the Wawashkano 1898 Scottish links while others hike or bike along some of the Island’s wooded trails.

Those driving up through southern Michigan might join Doug Freeth at the HenryFordMuseum and adjoining GreenfieldVillage.  That would mean spending the nights of September 5th and 6th in the wonderful Dearborn Inn.  The drive to Mackinaw on the 7th is about six hours.

When the reunion is over many might take additional time to visit the Marie and Whitefish Point on Lake Superior on the Upper Peninsula.

Below the Bridge, Jim Haugh will be on hand to welcome classmates to Harbor Springs on Lake Michigan, fifty miles south of Mackinac.  Details of all past September 10 possibilities can be discussed ahead of time with Jim, Charlie or Richard but two or more additional days should be allowed.

The cost of the Mackinac reunion will be $350.00 per person plus hotel, $115.00 a night or $460.00 for four nights plus out of pocket expenses of about $50.00 per person.  The hotel has 26 rooms.  If more classmates sigh up nearly alternative rooms are available.

Early responses, firm or tentative, would be appreciated, to be sent to Jim Farrin at jfarrin@nyct.net.  Charlie will be available on phone (908-847-0962) after May 15th to answer most questions.
